Your grass is growing! Yes it is that time of year again. But, before you scalp all of that thatch from your lawn you might want to treat it with a crabgrass pre-emergent. When you remove the thatch from your lawn to early, and the sun warms the ground, you get weeds, lots of ugly weeds flourishing in your lawn. So before you mow it down apply some weed protection. You will be glad you did. Then scalp away. After you lower the mower raise it right back up. The new growth will cover the brown thatch and you won't see it again. Add appx 1lb active nitrogen, this would be 3lbs of actual fertilizer from a bag that says 36-0-0 for each 1000sf of lawn and watch it green up beautifully.
